You ever wonder what may be the cause of discoloration on your neck. Or maybe you're curious why you have a rash on your forearm. Your child comes into the house asking you why is their tongue white. Like most of us as we age we start to experience pains and quirks that we never had before. All or most of us have or will experience similar scenarios and may or may not have the time to schedule an appointment at the doctors office. Who knows, why with the pending changes in health care and the predictions of long waits and the overcrowding of doctor's offices, a lot of us will wait till we have a more serious ailment before scheduling an appointment.
Not too long ago I came across a web site "WEB MD" (http://www.webmd.com/), a very user friendly medical site. The site offers everything from simple remedies to more complex issues such as the compatibility of prescribed medications you may be taking simultaneously. You can also pose questions as well as utilize the chat feature. I have used the site for what was or may be causing a red eye I was experiencing and it's possible remedies. Or what may be the reason for my teenage sons frequent leg cramps. Prior to a recent Dr.'s visit I used the site to prepare a list of questions for my Dr. regarding the possible side effects of medications the Dr. had prescribed for me.
Amazingly, I was able to utilize this site for work. I conduct monthly office meetings and a recurring topic is safety and how to prevent workplace injuries, which I address by offering safety tips and discussion. So far I've reviewed CPR procedure, proper lifting techniques to prevent back injuries, what to do in case of a burn and ergonomics. I'm exploring other tools on the site that I may be able to use at work i.e. quizzes or practicing safety at home and safety while commuting.
